Out of Philadelphia, epicenter of an enduring nugaze scene, emerges the hazy futurism of Magic America. Ten years of collaboration between guitarist and vocalist Evan King and drummer Joey Ginaldi coalesce into Magic America's sound, where shoegaze textures meet trip hop beats and the processed vocals of hyper-pop with the effortless eclecticism of a dream. The term hyper-rock, theorized by David Feigelson in a 2024 Paste Magazine article, is an apt description for the crossroads of nostalgia and bold clairvoyance Magic America exists upon. Their first release on Funeral Party, Texting The Dead b/w Andie, cements them as guitar music’s newest heralds into a Post-Internet age.
