Spirit Echo was the first song written after the completion of Animal Drowning (2022). It showcases the band shifting towards a long-form songwriting style supported by more traditional acoustic arrangements, while still incorporating the mix of orchestral and shoegaze elements that has come to define Knifeplay’s ever elusive sound. Lyrically, it looks to human nature with a sympathetic eye, challenging the listener to see a shared core good as a source of redemption.
